Thrifting 101 with the managers of our local thrift stores. Melissa Weikert from Goodwill Industries and Jim Miller from Salvation Army will talk about their stores, including the types and times of featured sales, when to find the best deals, the various items you may find in their stores, plus the “insider secrets” that only the treasure hunters know! They’ll tell you all you need to find the best deals for you and your family! As always, this program is free and open to the public. Thrifty Cooking/ Food Shopping- Feeding Your Family Better for Less
In this two part series, Hy-Vee dietician Nancy Dew helps us explore the defining qualities of “good food” for healthy families. In Part One, we’ll find out how to access information regarding diet, health and proper nutrition from many sources and how to tell the difference between “fad” health trends and the parts of a healthy diet that stand the test of time. We’ll spend Part Two at Hy-Vee Food Store, learning how to comparison shop and get the most for the money without compromising quality. Nancy will show us how to run down the deals without settling for less.

We'll talk about budgeting basics for personal finances, saving money and much more. (No personal info needs to be shared.) You don't have to be broke to get a leg up on your cash flow!

Outfitting Your Home on a Dime
DIY, anyone?  This workshop will illustrate how easy it can be to turn junk into treasure. We’ll take a few inexpensive, easy to find items- a table, curtains, and maybe a straight back chair- and in a few minutes and with virtually NO COST we’ll make them transform into fabulous, one of a kind  pieces of home décor!  No crafty-ness or particular creative skills are necessary, just a willingness to try something new!
