Welcome to our Electronic Resources page! The following list enables access to several online resources that the library provides, free of charge, to our patrons. Most of the resources are available via remote access although some may only be accessed in the library. See each resource for more information.
 

Ancestry.com has the largest collection of genealogical data available online to help you find your ancestors. Users of  Ancestry.com can access over 2 billion names in more than 3,000 databases to help them extend their family trees. Ancestry.com offers many valuable databases, including:

  • Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage Books
  • American Genealogical Biographical Index
  • AIS Census Index
  • U.S. Federal Census Images (1790-1920)

EbscoHost provides FREE access for Muscatine residents to full-text magazine, newspaper, business, health, and school magazine databases, 24 hours a day from home or office. To access EbscoHost, you will be asked to enter the barcode number from your Musser Public Library card. This project was funded by a grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust.

Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia database indexes over 25,000 records, covering an array of topics. Full text for each record may be easily accessed by double clicking on the topic from the display. The database contains various images, offers brief biographies as well as information in a variety of subject areas. This database is updated annually.

Sanborn fire insurance maps are the most frequently consulted maps in both public and academic libraries. Sanborn maps are valuable historical tools for urban specialists, social historians, architects, geographers, genealogists, local historians, planners, environmentalists and anyone who wants to learn about the history, growth, and development of American cities, towns, and neighborhoods. They are large-scale plans containing data that can be used to estimate the potential risk for urban structures. This includes information such as the outline of each building, the size, shape and construction materials, heights, and function of structures, location of windows and doors. The maps also give street names, street and sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house and block numbers. Seven or eight different editions represent some areas.
