Early Literacy... doesn't actually mean knowing how to read as an infant or toddler; it means everything that a young child knows about reading or writing before he or she can read and write. Early literacy is all about the underpinnings of language. One of the best ways to promote early literacy with infants and toddlers is the use of fingerplays. While language development is a very important issue for young children, so is play. In fact they are usually seen together.
